Introducing the 8-Week OCR Training Program

We’re thrilled to introduce a training program crafted for OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) enthusiasts who are eager to have structure in their OCR training. Tailoring an OCR program is a difficult task, and I remember in my early years of racing, it was hard to combine all the elements required for our unique and fun sport. It has not been an easy task, but we’ve done it! Developed by us, Leon Kofoed and Ida Mathilde — both experienced athletes with many titles under our belts — Leon as the master of grip training, and myself with many years of experience competing in OCR at a very high level.

Who Is This Program For?

Our program is tailored for OCR athletes at the recreational and age group level who want to experience structured training. The program is adjustable according to personal level and ambition, with training suited for OCR races between 3 and 21 kilometers.

The program starts with a pre-testing section that helps tailor which level you will suit best in, both for running and grip training (as we know your base levels here might vary a lot). Based on these pre-tests, you find your level and might, for example, be at level 3 (the highest level) in grip strength but level 1 in running capacity. In this way, you will follow the workouts for level 1, 2, or 3 — so we can ensure the training you get suits and develops the level you are at, and over time you can work on reaching the highest level in all parameters! Strength training sessions will mainly be based on your repetitions maximum, so you can ensure that you push yourself to your own maximum capacity.

Overall, whether you’re preparing for your first race or looking to improve your performance in upcoming events, our program offers the flexibility and guidance necessary to help you succeed.

Flexibility and Personalization

We understand that every athlete is unique, with different strengths, weaknesses, and personal goals. That’s why our program includes guidelines on how to modify workouts to accommodate your fitness level and training goals. We also included a star system, meaning that some workouts are mandatory, while others are nice to have or even bonus workouts. There is a lot of training in the 8 weeks, but we emphasize in the program that you have to tailor it according to our guidelines to challenge you best and take rest days/dial back when you feel like that’s best for your body.

This flexibility ensures that you can make the most out of every session, progressing at your own pace.

What Does the Program Include?

The program spans various components essential for comprehensive OCR training, and each section is detailed with clear instructions and variations. In short, the training sessions are split into: running/alternative cardio, strength, and grip training.

Besides this, the program offers links to the exercises (on YouTube) and includes other recommendations such as warm-up routines, mobility sessions, core training, alternative cardio, OCR-specific workouts, journaling exercises, etc. Additionally, we provide practical tips and tricks to navigate race day nerves, warm-up routines, and much more.
