Dream UpStream

Attention guys, inspirational post coming up! Dream Upstream holds a special place in my heart. It signifies the power of chasing your dreams against all odds, defying limitations, and embracing the journey towards greatness, thus also brings on a lot of positive and emotional feelings! Before I discovered OCR, I wasn't "excellent" at anything specific. The first 22 years of my life were dedicated to exploration and experimentation. However, a match ignited within me that was so strong, all my initial thoughts of being too old, unfit, female, allergic, or asthmatic to become an elite athlete quickly got squashed! As I proved myself wrong, I now allow myself to dream upstream and pursue opportunities to the fullest. This is why "Dream Upstream" is so important to me.

In short, "Dream Upstream" is about living life on your own terms, pushing yourself to be the best you can be, and never letting anything hold you back from achieving your dreams. Starting an elite athlete career at 22 years seemed like an unachievable plan... maybe even unbelievable. I had some rough years during my youth, filled with partying, working as a tour guide, and not dedicating time to sports at all. But I had never tried OCR before. Obstacle racing first came to Denmark in 2008, and it took a couple of years before I even knew what it was or that it excited me. It was a sport that spoke to me, encompassing all the elements I had been searching for in other sports: the running, the grip strength, and the technical obstacles that required both speed and agility, as well as upper body strength and lower body explosiveness to conquer.

Since then, Dream Upstream has become an integral part of how I live my athlete life. There is never a challenge too big, and if you don't allow yourself to dream about it, it will never happen. Instead, I always let myself dream about pursuits that others might consider "unachievable," such as setting a world record for rope-climbing from water onto the Danish Opera House, racing at high altitudes, or believing that I could actually win a world championship title in my OCR career. "Dream Upstream" is a phrase that can be interpreted in different ways, but the way I see it is the idea of pursuing one's goals and aspirations against the current of societal norms, expectations, or limitations.

I challenge everyone to not be content with simply flowing along with the crowd, but instead, be willing to chart your own course and work towards your dreams, even if it requires effort and determination. I am truly grateful that the sport of OCR helped me be brave and pursue my passions, despite the challenges I faced with my asthma, starting late as an athlete, and not having a stable financial situation. No matter the obstacles or challenges you may face, believe in your own abilities, never give up on your aspirations, and remember to allow yourself to dream big!
